Joe Rocco received a $400 research award from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania University Biologists, and he was named the recipient of the NCAA Elite 88 Academic Award for Division II men’s basketball.
The title of Joe Rocco’s research project is “Are Serovar-specific Glycopeptidolipids of Mycobacterium avium Responsible for Modulating the Host Receptor-Mediated Signal Transduction Pathways?” Joe is conducting his research in the laboratory of Dr. Vida Irani.
The Elite 88 Academic Award is presented to one person at each of the 88 national championships sponsored by the NCAA, based on undergraduate cumulative grade-point average. The recipient must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically. Rocco, of Northern Cambria, Pa., has a 3.949 grade-point average through his first five semesters at IUP. He is a
