Recently, the Punxsytawney campus held a successful Poetry Slam. Twenty-one student poets competed for prizes for the best poems.

First-year student Myriah Ferrare won the slam with her poem titled "Barbie." Second place went to Donta Drew and third place to Jamar Cox. The event was sponsored by the Punxsutawney Writing Center.

An overflow crowd expressed their appreciation for the poets' efforts, and four judges rated the poems. The judges included former Punxsy students Amanda Stamm, Ociele Hawkins, and Candice Wilkins, as well as former Writing Center Grad Assistant Mindee Lieske. Professor Lynn Shelly of the English Department is director of the Punxsutawney Writing Center.
