Shari Robertson, a professor of speech-language pathology in the Special Education and Clinical Services Department, was invited to speak at the Cray Academy Summer Institute in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, in July 2009.
The Cray Academy Summer Institute provided regular and special educators with the opportunity to attend presentations by invited faculty on a wide range of topics for continuing education or college credit. The Institute draws more than 5000 participants. It is named after the supercomputer builder Seymour Cray, Jr., and sponsored by the Cray Conglomerate.
Robertson presented a two-day workshop entitled “Read with Me: Stress-Free Strategies for Building Language and Literacy” that focused on preschool and school-aged children. The strategies she presented were evidence-based and focused on enhancing children's thinking, reading, and communication skills through individual and group intervention, and supporting and connecting the intervention to classroom achievement.
