Becky Stapleton On November 11, 2016, over 50 students and several faculty and staff from the Eberly College of Business and Information Technology attended the Women in Business Leadership breakfast event held in the Eberly Serafini Room.

The breakfast program began at 7:30 a.m. with a welcome from both Assistant Dean Cyndy Strittmatter and student coordinator Sarah Scruppi. The women enjoyed a great breakfast while having the opportunity to network with students from different business majors and with a number of their faculty.

Following breakfast, Becky Stapleton ’84, chief banking officer and senior executive vice president of S&T Bank, made a keynote presentation and held a Q&A session. Stapleton gave the women an excerpt of her past, starting with her upbringing and attendance at IUP, followed by the successes and trials she faced throughout her academic and professional career.

Students were given advice on how to rise above the challenges faced by women in the workplace, and were provided with success tips and encouragement as they navigate through college, family, graduate school, and various positions.

The presentation was followed by a Q&A session, where students inquired how Stapleton balanced her career while being a mother of three daughters, and how one should seek out a mentor while attending IUP.

Allison Acuna, sophomore marketing major, enjoyed the program. “I really appreciate the fact that Eberly provides its students with opportunities to network and to learn from our successful alumni. Becky was very personable and genuinely interested in providing us with helpful information. A key take away for me was how important it is for me to support other women as they seek to achieve their goals.”

Stapleton has been with S&T Bank, a $6.7-billion bank holding company, for over 28 years. She is nationally certified as a senior professional in human resources since 1999 and holds a Master of Public Affairs degree from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. She received her undergraduate degree from IUP in government and public service with a minor in economics in 1984.

She is a member of the IUP Eberly College Business and IT Advisory Council and works specifically with its Hall of Distinction recognition program. Stapleton is one of 15 appointed Pennsylvania Women in Banking Statewide Advisory Committee members whose mission is to provide women opportunities for career development, mentoring, recognition, growth, and a deeper sense of inclusion with others within the bank and in the industry, while in turn providing member banks with more developed, educated, well-rounded, and engaged leaders.
