The IUP Writing Across the Curriculum program and the Jones White Writing Center will honor the National Day on Writing on October 20, 2015.

Why do you write?

Join the Jones White Writing Center and the IUP Writing Across the Curriculum program in celebrating the National Day on Writing through Instagram! Take a selfie in your favorite writing space, with your favorite writing tools, or with your favorite writing collaborators; add a caption describing what writing means to you; post it to Instagram with the hashtags #WhyIWrite and #IUPWrites. All IUP students, faculty, and staff are invited to post. On October 20, prizes will be awarded to random Instagramers in honor of the National Day on Writing.

Established in 2009 by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), the National Day on Writing celebrates composition in all forms—from stories, poems, and letters to text messages, videos, and audio recordings—and demonstrates how writing is a vital part of our everyday lives. Thousands of writers from across the country recognize the National Day on Writing with local events, including write-ins, talks by local authors, and poetry slam celebrations.

This year marks the fourth celebration at IUP.

The National Council of Teachers of English, with 35,000 individual and institutional members worldwide, is dedicated to improving the teaching and learning of English and the language arts at all levels of education.
