Percussion Ensemble Takes on Fisher

Posted on 4/11/2014 7:30:10 PM

For the first time in over a decade, the IUP Percussion Ensemble will present its spring concert in Fisher Auditorium, moving from its normal venue of Gorell Recital Hall. The concert will start at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2014. Admission is free.

This special concert will add visual and acoustic aspects that playing in a hall like Fisher makes possible. The performance represents a collaboration between music director and percussion professor Michael Kingan and College of Fine Arts technical director David Surtasky. Lighting, sound, and staging opportunities will embellish this showcase, making it an unique and entertaining evening.

The IUP Percussion Ensemble is dedicated to performing at a high standard and to performing a variety of literature chosen for its substance and pedagogical value. The program will include several unique chamber pieces, a huge array of drums, and a stage filled with keyboard percussion instruments.

One piece will also serve as multimedia presentation, representing a collaboration among music, theater, and communications media students. The IUP Steel Band will also present the world premiere of a piece by alumnus Chris Leidhecker.
