During the Fall 2013 semester, IUP residential students competed in two sustainability related competitions.
The first was IUP’s second Residential Energy Competition, which took place from November 8–18, when students in IUP’s eight suite-style residence halls competed to reduce their energy usage. Ruddock Hall, the winner of the competition, will receive $250 in programming funds and will have the building’s name engraved on the Residential Energy Competition trophy. The second-place building, Suites on Pratt, will receive $100 in programming funds.
Additionally, residential students at IUP’s Indiana and Punxsutawney campuses were given the opportunity to develop their own sustainability related programs or projects during the “How Green is Your Nest?” competition. Students in Wallwork Hall took first place by gathering information about their recycling habits and creating a sculpture from recycled materials. Meanwhile, students in Whitmyre Hall took part in a recycling competition and won second place. The winning buildings will receive $350 and $200, respectively, in programming funds.
Thank you to all who participated! Information about this semester’s Residential Energy Competition will be available soon.
