Clark Aitkins, a student in the Religious Studies Department, has been selected to present at the IVY Plus Symposium, hosted by Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The symposium will take place March 13–15, 2014.
Aitkins’ talk will analyze 2 Kings 4:8-37 and 8: 1-6 from the Bible. These passages contain a story about the relationship between the prophet Elisha and a woman simply referred to as the “Shunammite Woman” in the text. The work interprets the story form the Shunammite Woman’s point of view, using archaeological and anthropological evidence to critique the assumed context of more traditional interpretations. Aitkins also relies on the original Hebrew in certain passages that are ambiguous in English in order to make an even stronger case for his findings.
