Six O’Clock Series: Harnessing the Power of Social Media

Posted on 1/21/2014 5:43:19 PM

In collaboration with the Office of Communications and Marketing and the Center for Student Life, IUP Libraries will host a Six O’Clock Series panel discussion about the complexities of maintaining an online identity.

The session will take place Monday, February 3, from 6:00–7:30 p.m. in the Ohio Room of the Hadley Union Building.

The panel, made up of highly engaged social media users, including IUP students and faculty members, will discuss a variety of questions about the ways that social media affects our lives, our relationships, and our identities.

Specific topics include professional vs. personal use of social media, “oversharing,” online bullying, and trolls, as well as popular accounts like @IUP_Confessions, @Crushesofiup, and @AsSeenAtIUP.

We would also like to discuss your reflections on social media. Please help us gather your thoughts by taking the Social Media Survey. The results of the survey will be revealed during the session.

This program will kickoff IUP’s first Social Media Leader Awards, which are presented in four categories to students who best contribute to a positive online culture at IUP. To nominate yourself for one of the awards, please fill out the entry form. Join us to consider how to use social media to be a leader, not a follower.

As always, attendance vouchers will be available.
