This semester’s Lunch
and Learn series at the Writing Center concludes on Friday, November 8, 2013, at
12:30 p.m. with “Managing Your Web Presence.”
IUP Journalism professor Michele Papakie will share her strategies and experience with building an online presence and networking with professionals through blogs and social media. She teaches social media, blogging, and professional preparation courses and will address reputation management using websites such as LinkedIn to build an online portfolio, and making the most of social media as a student or a faculty member.
Papakie brings with her 20 years of
experience in journalism and public relations. Her work experience includes time spent in the following positions:
reporter for Gateway Publications; public relations coordinator for Chartiers Valley
School District; public information officer for the City of Pittsburgh
Bureau of Police; and director of public affairs for California University of
Pennsylvania. Papakie is also a lieutenant colonel in the 171st Air Refueling Wing of
the Pennsylvania Air National Guard, and she has served as the unit’s public affairs officer
and equal opportunity officer.
This Lunch and Learn event will be a presentation and
discussion, so students and faculty are encouraged to come with questions. Attendees are also welcome to bring a lunch to eat in the Writing
Center during the discussion. The Writing Center is located in 218 Eicher Hall.
