IUP Archaeology faculty member Sarah Neusius, PennDOT archaeologist Susanne Haney, and graduate students Marion Smeltzer and Kirk Smith conducted workshops at the North Appalachian Folk Festival held in downtown Indiana on Saturday, September 7, 2013.
On Saturday afternoon, Smeltzer presented a workshop on 3-D modeling called “Picture Perfect, Recreating Memories in 3D,” which demonstrated the methods she has used to recreate historical and archaeological landscapes in several virtual world applications. Neusius, Haney, and Smith, representing the Indiana County Archaeology Society, conducted a second Saturday workshop in which Haney demonstrated flintknapping techniques and Smith demonstrated traditional cordage making. Participants had a chance to try these activities.
