IUP piano faculty member Henry Wong Doe performed Stravinsky’s Concerto for Piano and Winds in his hometown of Auckland, New Zealand, on Sunday, June 16, 2013. Wong Doe will also be recording his third album in Wellington, New Zealand, later this month.
The performance of Stravinsky was with the Auckland Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Peter Scholes. Other works on the program included George Antheil’s Concerto for Chamber Orchestra, and works by Australian composer Brett Dean and New Zealand composer Lyell Cresswell.
Wong Doe will be recording his third commercial release in Wellington later this month, entitled Landscape Preludes—a collection of short piano works by New Zealand composers inspired by the New Zealand landscape. This recording will be released on Rattle Records.
Prior to Sunday’s concert, Wong Doe was featured in an article in the New Zealand Herald.
