The Eberly College of Business and Information Technology revitalized the Continuing Professional Education (CPE) seminar program for certified public accountants over summer 2012 in collaboration with PNC Bank. On July 19, 31 participants traveled from Allegheny, Butler, Indiana, and Westmoreland counties to the Monroeville Holiday Inn for the daylong seminar.
Topics included “Other People’s Money,” “IRS Efforts in Identity Theft Prevention and Detection,” “An Overview of IRS Criminal Investigation Division,” “Is Your GPS Up-to-Date?” and “Due Diligence on Mutual Funds, Insurance, and Annuities.” Each participant received eight CPE credits: Two hours A&A, three hours Tax, and three hours Other.
Presenters for the seminar included former IUP Accounting faculty member Duane Ponko, C.P.A., C.F.E.; IUP alumnus Rick Ubinger, C.P.A., Ubinger CFO Services, LLC (also co-owner/CFO Plastikoil of Pennsylvania); IUP alumnus Vic Conrad, C.F.P., Ch.F.C., A.I.F.; and Robert Kickbush and Philip Yamalis from the IRS.
Additional CPE seminars are being planned for the fall, with the next being on Thursday, September 27, at Kovalchick Complex. This forensic seminar is titled “Continuing Professional Education Seminar – Focus on Corporate Fraud and Ethics.” Participants will receive five hours A&A and three hours Ethics.
