The Secondary Science Education programs, covering Biology, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, and Physics, have been awarded national recognition without conditions through the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
As such, these programs will be listed as nationally recognized on websites and/or other publications of the NSTA and NCATE. The institution may designate its program as nationally recognized by NCATE in its published materials. National recognition for these programs is dependent upon achieving this NCATE accreditation.
The designation of nationally recognized without conditions could not have been achieved without the collaborative and collective efforts of the Teacher Education coordinators from these science education programs, as well as other faculty members from across the university. This submission was coordinated by Holly Travis, Biology, with assistance from Mike Briggs, Chemistry; Ken Coles and Karen Rose Cercone, Geoscience; and Stan Sobelewski, Physics. Jeff Frantangelli, the IUP NCATE assessment coordinator, and Joseph Domaracki, interim associate dean for Teacher Education, were also instrumental in effectively completing and submitting this accreditation report.
Through these nationally recognized programs, IUP will continue to produce top quality science educators dedicated to preparing future generations of citizens to meet the challenges they will encounter.
