Faculty and students in Deaf Education and Speech-Language Pathology (both in the Department of Special Education and Clinical Services) and in the Department of Health and Physical Education collaborate each year to support clients who attend the Special Needs Activity Program (SNAP) at IUP.
The following faculty members have been involved:
The SNAP program offers a variety of physical education activities for clients with varying degrees of disabilities. Student volunteers learn to provide support and fun for clients. For clients who use sign language to communicate, volunteers come from the Deaf Education program. The clients also often receive speech and hearing screenings or treatment through the Speech, Language, and Hearing Clinic. Students across each program gain experience with clients while also providing a needed service to the community.
Anyone interested in SNAP can call 724-357-2774. Registration for the program is ongoing.
Anyone interested in diagnostic or treatment services offered by the Speech, Language, and Hearing clinic can call 724-357-2451. Services are offered during IUP’s Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters.
