Pianists Anastasia Antonacos, Henry Wong Doe, and Matthew Baumer will be joined by mezzo-soprano Jane Potter Baumer and bass Joseph Baunoch in a recital celebrating the two-hundredth anniversary of Franz Liszt's birth. This free performance will be presented Sunday, October 23, 2011, at 8:00 p.m. in Gorell Recital Hall, located on the second floor of John Sutton Hall.
IUP faculty member and music historian Matthew Baumer will accompany and discuss Liszt's remarkable life and music, which reached into so many areas of nineteenth-century culture.
Selections will include “Ricordanza” from the Transcendental Etudes; “The Fountains of the Villa d'Este,” a symphonic poem transcribed for two pianos; and Lieder on poems by Heine, Goethe, Hugo, and others.
