Dr. John A. Mueller, associate professor in the department of Student Affairs in Higher Education (SAHE), presented a theoretical workshop titled “What is Culture? Borders and Limits” at the Living Culture in the University—Developing Citizens of the World conference in Luxembourg on May 25, 2011.
This transatlantic dialogue, a collaborative effort between the University of Luxembourg and Miami University of Ohio, was designed to bring European and U.S. higher education professionals together to create a theoretically sound and experientially rich conference around the notion of “culture.”
Mueller was one of nineteen higher education professionals invited from the U.S. to participate in and present at this conference. His workshop, copresented with a European counterpart, compared and contrasted U.S. and European perspectives on culture with respect to the college experience and college student development.
Current SAHE graduate students, as part of a study tour of European higher education institutions, also attended the Luxembourg conference and included Francesca Catalano ’12, Andee Fisher ’12, and Jenna Hogan ’12.
