Dr. Linda Jennings, an assistant professor of Music at IUP, will be the featured solo cellist in a performance of the Concerto for Violin, Cello, and Javanese Gamelan.
The work is by American composer Lou Harrison and will be performed at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, on March 12, 2011.
For this performance, Jennings will collaborate with Deborah Greitzer, violinist of the Buffalo Philharmonic Ochestra, and Gina Fatone, an assistant professor of ethnomusicology at Bates College and the director of the Bates College Gamelan music ensemble.
The Harrison concerto, a unique synthesis of western art music and Javanese traditional music traditions, is rarely performed due to its unique instrumentation.
