One hundred sixty IUP alumni raised their voices in song as a memorial tribute to James Dearing, long-time director of Choral Activities, on January 16, 2011.
Dearing, who passed away in November 2010, was IUP’s choral conductor for twenty-eight years. In addition, he served as the choir director at Calvary Presbyterian Church. Earlier in his career, Prof. Dearing was a member of the Roger Wagner Chorale and served as assistant conductor of the 7th Army Chorus.
Following the concert, the dedication of the James C. Dearing Ensemble Music Library was unveiled with Mr. Dearing’s mother, Geraldine Teele, and Sarah Piper ’07 and a member of the 7th Army Chorus participating.
Alumni representing three decades presented a concert of music that were favorites of Prof. Dearing. The event was organized by Sarah Piper in cooperation with the IUP Department of Music.
