The IUP Athletic Department will make a donation in excess of $1,000 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation as a result of its fund-raising efforts at the home football game with Slippery Rock on September 25, 2010.
Through donations and two fifty-fifty raffles, the department raised $1,057.48, which will be used to help grant a local child a wish through the foundation. The annual Make-A-Wish Day at IUP is part of a national effort by Division II athletic programs to support Make-A-Wish.
As part of the day’s activities, Homer City resident Dalton Myers was presented with an IUP helmet and an autographed football and was part of the officiating team at midfield for the opening coin toss. Myers is the son of William Myers and Theresa Fleming, who works for the campus police.
Through the support of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, six-year-old Dalton, a student at Homer-Center Elementary School, will head to Disney World to celebrate his birthday with Mickey Mouse.
Also making a pregame presentation was United High School student Brandon Mountan, who organized a motorcycle run in August for his senior project in memory of his cousin Donald, a Make-A-Wish child. Mountan raised $3,450 and presented the money to Kayla Danch from the Make-A-Wish regional office in Punxsutawney.
