As part of IUP's ongoing work to limit the opportunity for spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus), the library building on the Indiana campus has been closed as of Friday, March 27.

While the physical library is closed, services will continue to be offered electronically through the “virtual library.” Services include chat, email, and telephone reference and research support; library instruction; electronic interlibrary loan; borrowing copies of articles to deliver to IUP users' desktops; and loaning items from IUP's digital collections to users at other libraries across the nation. Those with questions or who wish to access services should visit the IUP Library website and go to “Ask A Librarian” to submit a form for response.

For students needing use of a computer and internet, the Ruddock Hall computer laboratory will be open starting Monday, March 30. Hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Six computer stations, which are spaced to follow social-distancing recommendations, will be available to students. Students can access the computer lab via the entrance to Ruddock Hall at the corner of Maple and 11th streets. Students who have already been using the library this past week can use their I-Card to access the building; students who have not used the library during this past week can request access by emailing iup-resnet@iup.edu or by calling 724-357-2596. Students can also stop at the housing office in Ruddock Hall, on the other side of the building, to request access, or they can ring the doorbell at the Maple and 11th street door for entrance. Staff members will monitor the number of students in the lab; no more than six students will be permitted in the space at any one time.

Access to academic buildings that are currently open will be restricted as of noon, Monday, March 30. If IUP employees need to get items from these buildings, they are asked to do so before noon on March 30. Anyone with an emergency need to access these buildings should contact University Police at 724-357-2141.

Facilities remaining open include the following:

  • Limited residential spaces in Ruddock Hall for students remaining in university housing

  • The Hadley Union Building food court, open for meal pickup every day from 7:00 to 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and 4:00 to 6:30 p.m.

  • The Health Service office in Suites on Maple East, open Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. by appointment only (call 724-357-2550)

For IUP students or employees seeking internet access, the IUP wireless network is available outdoors at many locations, especially near campus buildings. They must be on the IUP network to gain access. IT Services has tested and recommended the following locations:

  • Washington Street parking lot (west side)
  • Johnson Hall parking lot
  • Whitmyre Hall parking lots
  • Eleventh Street parking lot (next to Stephenson Hall)
  • Miller Stadium parking lot (near the ticket booth)
  • Reschini Hall parking lot
  • Stouffer Hall parking lot
  • South Campus parking lot

For those in need of technology assistance, IT has created a Virtual IT Support Center, which enables the university community to connect via Zoom meeting and get support through virtual face-to-face conferencing. The hours for the Virtual IT Support Center are 8:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00 to 4:30 p.m. daily.

Live help-desk support personnel will be in the meeting to help with all technology-related issues. This new offering does not replace any already-existing method of contacting the IT Support Center (ihelp tickets).

More information about facilities and other changes related to IUP's response to the coronavirus pandemic will continue to be shared as it becomes available.
