IUP is no longer accepting applications for general admission for freshman students for the Indiana campus.
“We received a record number of applicants for our Fall 2010 freshman class at the Indiana campus, and applicants are very strong academically,” James Begany, associate vice president for Enrollment Management, said. A total of 3,100 new freshmen students have been selected to matriculate at IUP this Fall.
Applications are still open for transfer students—except for Nursing and Speech Language Pathology and Audiology majors—and for students who are interested in studying at IUP's regional campuses (IUP at Punxsutawney and IUP at Northpointe).
IUP received a total of 12,351 applications for Fall 2010 admission, 800 more than was received for the 2009 freshman class. IUP also had a record number of on-campus visitations by prospective students.
“Students and parents consistently report that they are impressed with our high academic quality, and our students continue to reinforce that reputation by selection for prestigious awards like Goldwater and Fulbright scholarships,” Dr. Tony Atwater, IUP president, said.
“We also know that our new residence halls and the living-learning communities they create are important to our incoming students and their families. These factors, along with our affordability, keep IUP as a very attractive option for academically strong students.”
This year's record-breaking number of applications comes on the heels of record-breaking enrollment of 14,638 students for the 2009–2010 academic year. The previous enrollment record of 14,620 was set in Fall 1991.
Since 2007, enrollment has grown by more than 600 students, or 4.4 percent, across all IUP instructional sites and campuses.
