The Center for Music Teaching and Learning provides IUP students with hands-on, real-world experience teaching music lessons and classes.  By providing a variety of music instruction, the center supports and enhances music education locally, regionally, and nationally while enhancing the music culture of the region.

The Center hosts three programs:

  • The IUP String Project provides a teacher-training program for IUP string students, including practical experience teaching lessons and group classes for string students.
  • The IUP Instrumental Internship Program provides IUP Music Education majors with the opportunity to teach music lessons on secondary instruments.
  • The Center Lesson Program provides private and group lessons for ages three to adult.

Future programs include the development of Keystone Music Camp, a residential program providing in-depth instrumental instruction to high school students, and music workshops for educators.

The Center for Music Teaching and Learning will host many of its programs in Cogswell Hall, where participants have the opportunity to use small rehearsal rooms, piano labs, and practice rooms for instruction.
