IUP Chorale singers

The IUP University Chorale (MUSC 122) is the university's premier choral ensemble and is dedicated to the study and performance of choral literature at the highest artistic level possible.

Founded in 1961, the University Chorale has achieved distinction as one of the finest choral ensembles in Pennsylvania, performing for the Eastern Convention of the American Choral Directors Association (Boston), in Carnegie Hall with the Brooklyn Philharmonic (New York), under the direction of Andre Previn with the Pittsburgh Symphony, and for the worship services in Mozart's cathedral the Salzburger Dom (Austria). Recent honors include Chorale's selection to perform at the 2013 American Choral Directors Association-Pennsylvania Fall Conference and the 2017 National Association for Music Education Eastern Division In-Service Conference.

The IUP Chorale rehearses each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 2:40 p.m. to 3:40 p.m. and Tuesday from 3:55 p.m. to 4:55 p.m. in Cogswell Hall, room 120. Chorale is offered for one credit (MUSC 122 001). Students with an academic load over 15 credits may register for zero credit; an override can be obtained from the Music Department office in Cogswell Hall.

Membership in the IUP Chorale is by audition only. Auditions will be held in Cogswell Hall, room 111, during the first three days of classes. Find a convenient time on the sign-up list at the door and enter your name. It is not necessary to prepare a solo for your audition. The director will vocalize you to hear the weight, color, and range of your voice, ask you to sight-read, and play some simple melodies for you to repeat. All students from across campus are encouraged to audition.
