Conduct research, develop technologies, train professionals, and educate students to protect and defend America from future terrorist attacks and disasters through education, research, and community outreach.

Focus

The John P. Murtha Institute for Homeland Security’s (the Murtha Institute) focus areas are education, outreach and training, and research and development in homeland security, which includes emergency management, public health preparedness, security and intelligence, and homeland defense.

Mission

The John P. Murtha Institute for Homeland Security leads the Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s unified effort to provide quality educational programs, conduct significant research, and provide effective community outreach in the areas of homeland security and homeland defense. We strive to prevent and deter future terrorist attacks, and reduce the threats and hazards to the United States, through our educational and training programs, and our research.
