The Center for Middle Eastern Studies (CMES) is intended to increase understanding and appreciation of all Middle Eastern cultures among IUP students and faculty as well as Indiana and the surrounding community. In addition, CMES conducts research on a variety of topics related to the Middle Eastern states.
Specific programs and services of the center include the following:
- Support a Middle Eastern focus in relevant disciplines
- Maintain a resource center for materials related to the Middle East
- Sponsor lectures and other presentations on Middle Eastern topics
- Promote academic collaboration among IUP, other universities, and research institutions in the Middle East and USA
- Conduct research and seek grant funding
- Recruit students from the Middle Eastern countries to attend IUP
As the CMES focuses on diverse cultures and peoples of the Middle East , its main mission is to promote a “dialogue among civilizations.”
