The Mathematics Department of Indiana University of Pennsylvania is sponsoring the 54th annual IUP High School Mathematics Competition. The purpose of the competition is to give recognition to capable students of mathematics and to arouse interest in mathematics through the solution of challenging problems.
This year’s competition will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2017. Details about parking will be made available to registrants
The competition includes problems from algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and other topics which are included in the secondary mathematics curriculum. No calculus is included. Each school is limited to a maximum of 10 students each. Students from any grade may participate, but it is suggested that your most capable students enroll. You are also encouraged to bring some students from each grade. Calculators are not permitted.
Plaques will be awarded to the top six individual winners as well as the top student in grades 9, 10, 11, and 12. Trophies will be given to the six schools with the
highest overall team score. A team score is the sum of the top three individual scores from a school.
Lunch will be provided, so we ask for the number of students and adults who will be eating with us. T-shirts will also be given to the students and adults, so we ask that you provide sizes for those attending. The sizes available are S, M, L, and XL.
We will also need to know the names of those participating so that certificates of participation can be prepared.
Teams will arrive to check-in between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m. Lunch follows the competition, and then there is a short awards ceremony at 1:00 p.m.
If you wish to participate, please complete the online form by March 22, 2017.
If you have further questions, contact the competition coordinator, Tim Flowers, at 724-357-4765 or via e-mail using email@example.com.
