In today’s technology-driven culture, Internet addiction has risen as a new and emergent clinical disorder. Estimates suggest 12 million Americans alone suffer from an addiction to the Internet. Given the newness of Internet addiction, therapists are often unfamiliar with how to assess and treat the problem. This workshop presents diagnostic and assessment issues with Internet addicts and explore how, for Internet addicts, cyberspace becomes an anonymous fantasy world inside the computer where they escape and avoid dealing with real life problems.
