What You'll Do
Nurses promote health and wellness, prevent disease, and help both patients and their families cope with health care issues. As a registered nurse, you already know the significant impact you can have on the health of others through your profession. As a Nursing major in the Registered Nurse track at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, you’ll receive credit for the schooling you’ve already completed as you pursue your bachelor’s degree.
At IUP, you’ll expand your knowledge of nursing and gain further expertise in this rewarding field. This track is designed to prepare you to serve as a provider, designer, manager, and coordinator of care in a variety of health care settings.
Among the major courses you’ll take are Professional Nursing III, Research Utilization in Nursing, Community Health, Advanced Health Assessment, Introduction to Nursing Informatics, Leadership Practicum, Health Promotion of Families across the Life Span, and Transitions in Professional Nursing.
What You'll Become
The Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing in the Registered Nurse track gives you the opportunity to count your credits from a respected registered nursing program toward a bachelor’s degree at IUP. With your bachelor’s degree, you can pursue further education in advanced practice nursing. Advanced practice roles include Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), Nurse Practitioner (NP), Certified Registered Anesthetist (CRNA), and Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM).
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, overall job opportunities for registered nurses are expected to be excellent. Employment of registered nurses is expected to increase by 22 percent from 200 to 2018, according to the labor study. One reason for this growth, which impacts many levels of nursing, is the projected increase in the older population, which tends to need more nursing services than the younger generation.
