Geography/General Geography, BA

Students in rocks

KNOW YOUR WORLD BETTER — Studying geography opens your eyes to the forces at work in the world around you, whether it’s the powers of human development and community sprawl or the powers of flood waters and drought patterns.

Follow Your Interests with This Flexible Degree

Sample courses from different subfields of geography with the flexibility offered by the General Geography Concentration.

Among the classes you can choose are Population Geography, Fresh Water Resources, Geography of American Indians, Geography of Russia and the Soviet Sphere, Geography of Pennsylvania, and Climatology. Free electives in the General Geography track allow you to add a minor, perhaps in geology, or to choose your own path by selecting a mix of courses that interest you most.

Explore the Labs, Weather Station

Apply your expertise after graduation in positions that include research analysis and data gathering. In government employment, the State Department, Department of Commerce, and the Census Bureau seek out those with geography knowledge and practical skills. Our students take advantage of opportunities to get hands-on experience with the technology used by geographic professionals through the Geography Department’s labs and weather station.
