Art Education - student teacher

THE ART OF INSPIRING CHILDREN  Art education major Olivia Mays loves to bring out the inner artist in her fifth graders. IUP has a national reputation in teacher education. Olivia says, "After I talked to professors and checked out IUP's chapter of the National Art Education Association, I knew IUP was where I wanted to go."

Teach what you love

Artists create their works of art using both skill and an inner sense of expression. As an art education major at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, you’ll gain the skills you’ll need for a career as an art teacher while you explore avenues for artistic expression.

Through IUP’s art programs, you’ll explore a variety of areas of study, including ceramics, drawing, fibers, graphic design, metals, painting, print media, sculpture, and woodworking.

Be ready to lead a classroom

Through IUP’s teacher education courses, you’ll gain an excellent foundation for your career and take part in IUP’s outstanding student teaching program. As an art education major, you will also take art classes covering history, criticism, aesthetics, and culture.

You may choose to add a minor in studio art to your degree. This option provides further exploration in the various studio disciplines.

FACULTY PUT TEACHING FIRST Professor Robert Sweeny explains how IUP excels in educating future art teachers.
