Cindy Embleton graduated from IUP in 1997 and headed for New York, where she has worked as a food columnist, freelance writer, and research consultant. She also read enough investment books to make money in stocks—money she has now invested in an on-line meeting service.
Intellect Connect is the creation of Embleton and a colleague. “On regular dating sites,” Embleton said, “you’ll sometimes find people who say things like, ‘I love books and the History Channel, but I’m a fun person, too.’ On our site, you don’t need to apologize for having cerebral interests.”
“Everyone on the site is there because they’re specifically looking for people who enjoy things like documentaries and educational lectures,” Embleton said. While many site visitors hope to find a romantic interest, others are just looking for like-minded friends. Members not only meet on line but also mingle at literary tours, independent film nights, museum crawls, and other events organized by Intellect Connect.
Embleton herself recently celebrated her “five-year anniversary with an extremely intelligent, extraordinary man.” Fittingly, the two met on line.
