“It just keeps me entertained.”
That’s how Steve Wiedmaier ’73 describes his passion for all things IUP. The organizer and first president of the Northwestern Pennsylvania alumni chapter, Steve attends all football games, home and away, and attends other IUP athletic events in Northwestern Pennsylvania.
He and his wife, Cindy, live in Warren, Pa., and it’s hard to miss that it’s the home of an IUP fan. His golf clubs have IUP head covers, the blanket Cindy uses at football games is handmade, their cars have always had IUP colors, and he designed a custom-made bicycle done in IUP colors.
“I called the IUP College of Fine Arts to get the exact color numbers, and the frame builder did the painting,” Steve said. “It’s a masterpiece!”
Just recently, on his birthday, Cindy presented him with an IUP corn hole game, made and decorated by their niece and her boyfriend. “I could fill a room with my IUP stuff,” Steve said.
“When I worked (I’m now retired), IUP grads always got primary consideration when I hired,” he said. “Everything has been done for the same reason—recognition for and support of IUP. I have recruited over a dozen students for the university, including one who is currently interning at the Culinary Academy and one who will be an incoming freshman this Fall.”
“I’m just a loyal IUP grad and athletics fan,” Steve said. “It’s fun.”
