Lisa Sherry Powers M’91 will become Penn State University’s director of Public Information on July 1.
In her new role, Powers will provide oversight for Penn State’s News Bureau, Science and Research Communications office, and Video Communications office, among other duties. She also will serve as a university spokesperson on news and policy matters.
Powers began at Penn State in 1991 as a writer-editor in the Department of Public Information, eventually being named editor of the faculty-staff newspaper, Intercom, serving all of Penn State’s employees, and then manager of internal communications for the university. In 2000, she joined the Office of the President as a writer, researcher, and coordinator of special projects.
Before joining Penn State, Powers was a marketing coordinator and technical writer for a civil engineering firm where she was responsible for public relations, marketing, and communications efforts. She also was a reporter for five years for the Altoona Mirror.
