Carol Ackerman M’07, a registered nurse clinician on 3Mansfield at UPMC McKeesport, received the 2011 Clinical Leadership Award.
The award was presented by the Academy of Medical-Surgeon Nurses at the 20th annual convention, held in Boston on September 8 with over 1,000 attendees.
The award celebrates a medical-surgeon nurse whose leadership qualities emulate the highest of professional standards and who has improved the image and practice of medical-surgeon nurses.
Carol’s nomination for this award detailed her clinical expertise and compassionate care for her patients. Her accomplishments include authoring a booklet, “A Chemotherapy Guide for the Medical-Surgical Nurse,” and publishing “not on My Watch: Treating and Preventing Pressure Ulcers” in the January 2011 MedSurg Nursing.
Carol is a certified nurse in medical-surgical nursing and is preparing to sit for the Gerontology Certification exam. She is a certified teacher to the elderly, serving as a facilitator for the Agless Wisdom program. She also leads the effort for community outreach, helping to raise funds for the support of cancer patients and their families.
