Dave Flippo ’80 released his fourth CD, Tao Tunes (Oppilf Records), with his Chicago-based jazz quartet Flippomusic.
Dave, who received his B.A. in Music Composition from IUP, adapted the English text of eighteen chapters of the ancient Tao Te Ching into lyrics, and set and arranged them in more than ten different styles, including jazz, Latin, and contemporary. He plays as both pianist and vocalist with group members Dan Hesler (saxophone/flute), Donn De Santo (bass), and Heath Chappell (drums).
Guest artists include Larry Gray (cello), Neal Alger (guitar), and Hamid Drake (percussion).
Flippomusic has been performing and recording Dave’s compositions in Chicago since 1992 and has released two “world-jazz fusion” CDs: Tendrils of Light and Ganesh on Southport Records, plus his vocal debut, When the Heart is Strong..., on his own Oppilf Records. Lyrics and audio clips can be found at the Flippomusic website.
