Dane Konop ’75, a local history buff, led the group of long-time friends and IUP alumni on a special “insider’s” tour of Harpers Ferry National Historical Park on February 12, 2011. Before the tour, they stopped for a photo along the Potomac River at Dam #3, “near the entrance to the waterworks that powered the nineteenth-century federal armory there, which you don't get to see if you take the Park Service tour,” Dane said.
“Although our graduation dates are all over the board, we knew each
other because we all went to Indiana about the same time. Mark started at Indiana in ’65, and the other three of us started in
’66,” Dane said.
All four of us served in the military. Bob and I went on active
duty before returning to graduate. Mark went in the Army and to Vietnam
after getting his bachelor’s, then returned to graduate school while Bob
and I were still there. Mark was a Theta Chi and Jim was a KDR. Bob and
I were GDIs.”
