Message from the Dean

IUP Libraries: We are here to Help You Create Your Own Story!

In April 2011, the IUP Libraries joined libraries across the country in celebrating National Library Week by inviting our users to “Create Your Own Story” at our library. Whether by opening a paper book, an electronic journal article, learning the facts of history, or acquiring new computer skills, IUP students and faculty are growing intellectually and creating their stories here at the library.

With services, resources, and facilities developed, evaluated, and adapted through the feedback of IUP faculty and students, we stand at the center of the university’s intellectual and cultural life.

We foster an open intellectual environment and encourage and promote a passion for learning, inquiry, and research. We offer places to study, do research, and freely exchange ideas in an atmosphere that encourages civility and respect.

We support scholarly growth and engagement by providing the best possible resources, services, and facilities for our academic community and by providing an exciting environment for study and collaboration. Our resources provide access to the breadth of human experience and expression and are presented on a balanced body of traditional and new platforms. The staff and faculty of the IUP Libraries are dedicated professionals with a vision and a passion for service. They possess the skills, experience, and flexibility to provide everyone who comes to make use of our facilities and resources, or who are in need of assistance, with a rich and fulfilling experience.

Remember that we are here for you! As the Internet and social media continue to transform the way students and faculty learn and gather scholarly information, the library is also transforming the ways we deliver information.

But to make the IUP Libraries the best they can be, we need your help. We are eager to hear from you. Let us know how you think we are doing by sending us your feedback. We welcome your suggestions for improvement of our services and programs.

Also, please remember you can always contact me at ljgonzal@iup.edu with suggestions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Luis J. Gonzalez, Dean of Libraries
