Students at the Penn

MULTIPLE OPPORTUNITIES — Cody Benjamin (left), Class of 2016, works to make sure the Penn, IUP’s student-run newspaper, gets out on time. “Since my freshman year, I’ve been on staff. As a junior, I ascended from staff writer to sports editor, and balancing schoolwork with the workload was an invaluable experience,” said Benjamin, who also works as on-air talent for IUP-TV and WIUP-FM.

The Journalism Department offers an 18-credit minor designed to complement any major. Three three-credit courses are required: JRNL 105, 102, and 120. The remaining nine credits may be taken from the following list of journalism major courses: JRNL 326, 338, 344, 347, 375, and designated Special Topics courses.

Internship credits do not apply toward the 18-credit minor; however, a student in the minor program may take an internship and apply the credits as free electives.

See the course sequence for the journalism minor in the undergraduate catalog.
