The university supports Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, and Excel). If you are using a newer version of Office (e.g., 2007) you may need to save your documents as the 2003 version or in a Rich Text Format (RTF). If you are using word processing software other than Microsoft Office (e.g., WordPerfect) you may need to save your document as a Word 2003 version or in RTF.
Save a Word document so that it can be opened in a previous version of Word:
If you save your document in the default file format in Office Word 2007, users of previous versions of Word must install the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for 2007 Office Word (see "Additional Links" below), Excel, and PowerPoint file formats to open the document. Alternatively, you can save the document in a format that can be opened directly in previous versions of Word—but formatting and layout that depend on new features in Office Word 2007 will not be available in the previous version of Word.
- Click the Microsoft Office Button, and then point to Save As.
- Click Word 97-2003 Format.
- Type a name for the document, and then click Save.
Save a document as Word 97-2003 Format:
