When I type names into the To field, it isn't finding matches in the IUP directory.

Sometimes imail needs to be reminded about which address book to use. To resolve this:

  1. Click New Message.
  2. Click Address Book.
  3. Choose (IUP Directory (LDAP)).
  4. Click Discard.
  5. Click New Message.
  6. In the To field, type the last name of a recipient. It should now find matches from the IUP directory. 

When I type an e-mail message, the text runs off the screen and doesn’t wrap.

  1. Click Settings.
  2. Choose the Compose tab.
  3. Change Auto Wrap to Yes.
  4. Click Save.
  5. Click Close.

How to I turn the preview pane on (or off)?

In the lower right corner of the imail window, there is an icon to Show/Hide Preview. You can click this button to toggle the setting. If the preview is on, clicking it will turn it off. If the preview pane is off, clicking it will turn it on. You can also use the F8 key to toggle the setting.

My preview pane doesn't appear to be working.

First, verify that the preview pane is turned on (see previous question).

Next, verify that you are simply clicking on the message without clicking on the checkbox in the first column. If you click on the checkbox, imail is expecting you to select another action (delete, purge, reply) to execute on the message(s), and it does not display the message in the preview pane.

How do I make “Advanced Formatting” the default?

  1. Click Settings.
  2. Choose the LookOut tab.
  3. Change Always enable formatting toolbar to Yes.
  4. Click Save.
  5. Click Close.

When I click on an e-mail link on a Web page, can it be configured to send a message from imail?

No. This feature is only available with e-mail clients that are installed on the computer, like Outlook and Thunderbird.

Can I use my e-mail alias to log into my e-mail account?

No, you should always use your username to access your e-mail account.

Can I sort the message list by the From field and then by the Received date?

No, but there is a workaround. You can use the search feature to search for messages from a specific sender. Then you can sort the results by the Received date (or any other column you choose).

When I log into imail, I see a message letting me know that I am using 90 percent or more of my quota. What does this mean?

Each user has a limited amount of space for e-mail storage, and this is called your e-mail quota. If you are within 90 percent of your e-mail quota, you will see this message each time you log in. When you exceed your quota, you will no longer be able to receive new messages.

You can see how much of your quota you are using by scrolling to the bottom of the Folders pane. You can see the amount of space used by each folder by clicking kb at the top of the Folders pane.

To reduce the amount of quota you are using, you will need to delete messages. See Delete Messages in imail and Trash Management for additional information.

When viewing a message, I can’t tell who else received it. How do I view the headers of the message so that I know who the other recipients are?

Click on the triangle that appears to the left of Subject: while viewing the message. This will expand the header so that you can see the To field and the CC field, if it was used.

How do I change my settings for saving a copy of messages that I send?

How do I add a signature to all my outgoing messages?

Is there an option to read only unread messages?

Yes, but only in the preview pane. If your preview pane is turned off, you can turn it on by hitting F8.

My “from” address is not using my e-mail alias, which I prefer. How do I change this?

Is there a way to automatically add addresses to my address book, based on messages I send or reply to?

No. However, you can use the Take Address feature. This will allow you to add the sender of an e-mail message you’ve received to your address book.

  1. While viewing the message, click Take Address in the lower right corner of the imail window.
  2. Select Contacts.
  3. Click OK if you receive a confirmation message that it has been added to your address book.

I changed my option for "Save Sent Messages in" to None, because I no longer want to save a copy of every message I send. Now my Sent Items folder no longer shows up under my account name. What happened to it?

The messages are still there. When you change this setting to None, the Sent Items folder is no longer considered a special folder. That means it will appear in your folder list along with other folders that you’ve created. Scroll down in your folder list and you should see the Sent Items folder, and it will still contain your sent messages.
