Associating groups with activities and resources is accomplished by using Moodle Groupings.
A grouping is a collection of groups within a course. A grouping must contain at least one group. Details on creating groups are provided in the article “Creating Moodle Groups.” Instructions for creating groupings are provided in the article “Creating Moodle Groupings.”
Activities and Groupings
Associating a grouping with any Moodle activity is done during the configuration or setup of the activity. This is done in the Common Modules Settings area.
When you reach the Common Modules Settings area in the actives setup, you will need to select Separate Groups or Visible Groups from the Group Mode drop-down menu.
Next, select a grouping from the Grouping drop-down menu.
You will then need to select the box next to the Available for Group Members Only label. This will ensure the activity will be available only to the students in the group or groups associated with the selected grouping (as shown by the red arrow).
When you have completed the setup for the activity, select the Save and Return to Course or the Save and Display button.

Resources and Groupings
Groupings are associated with resources in the Common Modules Settings area of the resource setup.
When you reach the Common Modules Settings area in the resources setup, you will need to select the box next to the Available for Group Members Only label in order to activate the Groupings drop-down menu (as shown by the red arrow).
Next, select a grouping from the Grouping drop-down menu.
When you have completed the setup for the activity, select the Save and Return to Course or the Save and Display button.
