Due to security and privacy considerations, IUP has implemented technical blocks to prevent IUP network attached computers from participating in peer-to-peer (P2P) networks. Programs such as KaZaA, LimeWire, and BitTorrent will be actively blocked at IUP's Internet gateways.

In addition to standard malware such as virus infected programs, spyware, and adware, P2P programs are increasingly being used as a conduit for identity thieves to steal personal information. Be sure that you download music, movies, and software legally. See the Dangers of File-Sharing Networks for more information.

The technical blocks were implemented on May 4, 2009.
