You may need to restore content you created in one course to another. For example you may need to restore content from a development course to a course shell.

1. Navigate to the course you wish to restore the content to and select Restore from the Administration block.  You are taken to the backupdata folder where Moodle backup files are stored for each course.  If this is a blank course shell you will see no files in the list.

2. To upload the backup file select the Upload a file button.  Browse to the location on your local computer or network drive where you stored the backup file and select the Upload this file button. Please note the maximum file size that can be uploaded to Moodle is 50MB.

3. Next select the Restore link under Action column on the right side of the window in-line with the backup filename as shown in the example by the red arrow.

4. You will be asked if you want to continue with the restore process, select the Yes button.

5. Next you will see a detailed list of the files to be restored.  Review the list and then scroll to the bottom of the page and select the Continue button.

6. On the  next screen there are options of how to import files into the course.  There are several important points that must be noted with this restore screen.  First at the top next to the label Restore to you will need to select Current course, deleting it first from the drop down menu. (See Figure 1)  This will delete anything in the course that might be there before restoring the desired content.

A list of what is available for restore is shown.  You can uncheck the box next to any item so it is not restored to the course.  In Figure 1 we have shown this by un-checking the box next the Lessons.  At the bottom of this screen (See Figure 2) you can choose to restore Groups, Course files, or Site files.  If you do not want to restore any of these items simply select No from the drop down menu next to that item.  Once all choices have been made select the Continue button.

7. You will then be asked to start the actual restore process.  Select the Restore this course now button.

8. Review the list presented to make sure all files have been restored.  You should see that the process has completed successfully at the bottom of the screen.  Next select the Continue button.

You will be returned to the course home page where you can review the content for accuracy.
