Roles are various sets of permissions granted to a user in Moodle. The role you are assigned dictates what privileges you have and what you can control in Moodle. The three URSA managed roles (Enrollment is automated based on data stored in URSA) are Teacher, Non-editing teacher, and Student. There are three additional roles Manual Teacher, Manual Non-Editing Teacher, and Manual Student.

URSA Managed Roles

Teacher: This role gives instructors control over a specific course or courses as well as the learning experience of the students. Users in this role are able to assign membership to the Manual Teacher, Manual Non-Editing Teacher, and the Manual Student roles.

Non-editing teacher: This role is most often used for graduate assistants. It gives the person privileges to teach in a course and grade activities, but he or she cannot add or alter course content.

Students: This role enables learners to perform allocated tasks and gives them access to resources and activities.

Manual Roles (Applies to Semester-Based Course Shells ONLY)

Manual Teacher: This role gives instructors control over a specific course or courses as well as the learning experience of the students. Anyone in the Manual Teacher role WILL NOT be able to assign roles.

Manual Non-Editing Teacher: This role is most often used for graduate assistants. It gives the person privileges to teach in a course and grade activities, but he or she cannot add or alter course content.

Manual Student: This role enables learners to perform allocated tasks and gives them access to resources and activities.
