A permanent identification number is assigned to each student upon entrance into the university. This student ID number is sometimes referred to as the URSA ID, the Banner ID or the Personal ID. This number is sent to the student in their letter of acceptance, along with the student's initial PIN (Personal Identification Number).
Employees obtain their ID number and PIN from Human Resources.
The ID number is used on all permanent records, and is used for scheduling classes, entering grades, as well as all accounting activities. This is done through a system called URSA, which stands for University Records and Systems Assistant.
When accessing URSA, you must identify yourself to the URSA system using your ID and an eight-character Personal Identification Number, called a PIN. During the URSA log in process you must put an “@” sign in front of your ID number.
- Students – If you have never logged into URSA before, your initial PIN will be a randomly assigned eight-digit number sent to you with orientation materials.
- Faculty and staff – If you do not know your PIN, you will need to contact the Office of Human Resources at 724-357-2431.
Your ID number can also be found above the photo on your university identification card, or I-Card.
The first time you access URSA you will be required to change your PIN. When you change your PIN, you can use both numbers and letters. You will also be asked to set up two security questions. If you forget your PIN, you can reset it yourself by correctly answering the security questions.
If you forget your PIN:
- Students – If you forget your PIN and you cannot answer your security questions, you will have to go to the Office of the Registrar in Clark Hall to have the PIN reset. Please visit the Registrar's website for contact information and hours of operation.
- Faculty and staff – If you forget your PIN and you cannot answer your security questions, you will have to contact the Office of Human Resources in Sutton Hall to have the PIN reset. Please visit the Office of Human Resources website for contact information and hours of operation.
Students also need an Alternate PIN to register for classes. This PIN is obtained from your academic advisor or academic department secretary. The alternate PIN is different each semester.
