Maintenance Release 1 for Windows 7

 

In January 2013, the IT Support Center will roll out Maintenance Release 1 (2013-1) for Windows 7 to all PCs running the administrative desktop. These patches are of the UTMOST importance. There are certain security updates that must be put in place asap.  In addition to the security updates, MS Office will also be updated to version 2010. There are resources on the IT Support Center website if you have questions or issues. Maintenance Release 2013-1 will include:

  • Mozilla Firefox 17.0.0 (Add-ons IE Tab 4.1.3.1 and Zotero 3.0.8)
  • Mozilla Thunderbird 17.0.0 (Add-ons Display Quota 0.3.5 and LookOut 1.2.13)
  • Adobe Flash Player ActiveX 11.5.502.110
  • Adobe Flash Player Plugin 11.5.502.110
  • Adobe Reader XI (With Spelling Dictionary Pack and Font Pack)
  • Adobe Shockwave Player 11.6.8.638
  • Oracle Java Runtime Environment 6
  • Apple QuickTime 7.7.3 (With Apple Application Support)
  • Microsoft Office 2010

Any off-campus machines will need to be brought on-site and connected to the network (wired, not wireless) in order for this update to run successfully. 

Depending on the speed of your PC and the number of users that apply the maintenance release simultaneously, it will take approximately 20 to 45 minutes to complete.

Update Procedures

Please follow these instructions to complete the installation of Maintenance Release 2013-1:

  1. Close ALL running applications.
  2. Double-click on the Run Advertised Programs shortcut on the desktop OR click on the New Program Available balloon that appears in the lower right corner when the maintenance release is available to your PC.
  3. Select the maintenance release from the list then click Run. (If you are prompted to download the file, click Download, then click Run.)
  4. Click OK at the introduction screen to begin the maintenance release. Please let the installation complete. During the installation, do not power your machine off and do not hit Cancel.
  5. Click OK at the MR1 was successful message. Your machine will restart.
  6. Click OK to restart your computer.
  7. Log-on. MR1 will finish and ask you to reboot one more time.
  8. Click OK.
