Accessing Online Rooms for Students

Beginning Spring 2013, Blackboard Collaborate will be available for use and officially joins the IUP online learning toolset in Summer 2013. The Collaborate product will replace Wimba Classroom as the IUP Web-conferencing product at the end of Spring 2013.

1. Students access a Collaborate room by clicking on the Online Rooms link in the course navbar.
   
2. You are then placed in the Rooms tab. At the bottom of the Rooms tab, a list is displayed of available rooms.
3. Note that the table displays the Start and End Dates for each room listed in the table.
4. Click on the Join link in the Join Room column next to the desired room title.
   
5. The Blackboard Collaborate webpage opens. You will need to leave this webpage open until you are actually in the room.
   
   
6. The browser you are using may ask you to open the file that needs to be downloaded, or warn you that the file may be harmful. You will need to open or keep the file as you see in your browser. A file titled meeting.jnlp will be downloaded to your machine. For example, in Firefox you would see a dialog box similar to the one below.
   
   
7. The meeting.jnlp file begins to download.
8. You may also be asked to accept the Blackboard Collaborate license agreement. Select the Accept button.
9. You may also be asked to select your Connection Speed. From the drop-down menu, select the speed you access the Internet from you location. For example, if your ISP is a broadband provider, you would select Cable/DSL.
   
   
10. The Collaborate Room will open and appear similar to the image displayed.
