Running the Wimba Setup Wizard for Desire2Learn or Moodle

Loading...

Before entering a Wimba Classroom for the first time, you should run the setup wizard. This only needs to be completed one time for each computer that will be used to run Classroom. This wizard will test your system for voice and audio capabilities and ensure that you are able to take full advantage of the features in the room. Be sure you have your microphone and speakers connected prior to beginning this wizard.

Once you have launched Classroom from either Desire2Learn or Moodle, you will see a window asking you if your computer is ready to use with Classroom. If you have not run the setup wizard, click the Run Wizard button on the Is Your Computer Ready screen. We have provided directions on how to launch Classroom in Desire2Learn and Moodle for students.

Wizard1

The Welcome screen will be displayed. Click on Start to begin the system check, and simply follow the instructions on each screen.

Wizard2

During the pop-up blocker check, if you have one turned on you will see a warning. You will need to allow pop-ups from the Wimba site in order to continue with the wizard. If you allowed pop-ups, click the Relaunch Wizard button.

Next, the wizard will check for Java and Signed Applets. If you have the current version of Java, the wizard will simply put a check mark in the java box and continue to the next test. If you do not have the latest version of Java, it can be downloaded. Please note that with Signed Applets you may need to click on Always, Run, or Trust to allow Classroom for audio to run on your computer if you receive a warning dialog box. Click Next to continue.

Wizard3

The setup will next check for Text-Chat and Audio Playback. With audio playback, you should hear a recorded message prompting you to click on the Next button.

Wizard4

Audio Recording is checked next. You will hear a series of tones and be asked to speak into your microphone. Hold down the Talk button with your mouse, or the control key on your keyboard, in order to activate the talk feature. Click the Next button.

Wizard5

Once you have finished the wizard, you should see check marks in all of the boxes on the left panel indicating that your system has been checked and will operate properly within Classroom. Click the Finish button to continue to Classroom.
