The basic structure for the Project Directory Service (P: drive) is represented below.

PDS directory structure

These are the folders found in the section level of a course

Dropped folder
Instructor(s) has FULL CONTROL access to this folder and the folders beneath it. This Folder contains folders for students that have dropped the course.
Hand-in folder
Instructor(s) has FULL CONTROL access. FULL CONTROL access allows for changing permission, writing, deleting, and reading within the folder. Students have ADD access. ADD access allows for writing to the folder, but does not allow anyone else to access the file. The file cannot be changed or deleted not even by the owner of the file. This folder should be used to allow students to turn in assignments electronically.
Information folder
Instructor(s) has FULL CONTROL access, students have READ access. READ access allows for opening, reading, and copying of a file to another location. Files cannot be modified or deleted from the original location. This folder should be used to provide students information on the class or additional electronic reference material for the course, e.g. course syllabus.
Instructor-only folder
Instructor(s) has FULL CONTROL access. This folder will have a class list that is updated nightly. This is used for the instructor to have materials that are related to the course but should not be accessed by the class.
Scratch folder
Instructor(s) has FULL CONTROL access, students have CHANGE access. CHANGE access allows for writing, deleting, and reading within the folder. This folder is a working area that the entire class can access. Additional subfolders can be created to accommodate special projects etc.
Students folder
Instructor(s) has FULL CONTROL access, students have CHANGE access to their individual folder only. Each student has an individual subfolder within the student folder identified by their username in which only the student and the instructor can access, allowing them to work on course related projects and assignments.
World-read folder
Instructor(s) has FULL CONTROL access, everyone has READ access. This folder may be accessed by any individual with an IUPMSD network account.
